Licence for files and prints
Draft, pending legal review. Highlighted details have not been filled in yet, and this text may change before it takes effect.
Every file you download from STLmint comes with a licence from [Registered business name]. The templates, design files and fonts behind them stay ours or our licensors'; you get the rights below to use them. This licence is part of our Terms of Service.
The short version: you can always print what you buy; to sell the prints, you need the STLmint Seller plan; nobody may share or sell the digital files.
Single file purchase
When you buy a single file, you may:
- download it, and download it again later from your account;
- print as many copies of it as you like for yourself, or to give away as gifts, without charging for them.
A single file does not include the right to sell prints made from it. If you want to sell prints, join the STLmint Seller plan.
STLmint Seller plan
While you are a member, you may:
- create files for any design, for your own customers' orders;
- print and sell as many physical items made from those files as you like, through any channel: your own shop, marketplaces such as Etsy, social media and messaging orders, markets and fairs, and bulk orders for schools, offices, clubs and events;
- use the pictures from the studio to show customers what they are ordering and to illustrate your listings;
- have someone else, such as a print farm, print your orders for you, as long as they use the files only to make your orders and do not keep them.
What you sell is the printed product, not the file.
What nobody may do
Whether you bought a single file or are a member, you may not:
- sell, share, publish or give away the digital files (STL, 3MF or any converted or edited version), including to your own customers;
- offer the designs as downloads, or upload the files to a print-on-demand or file-sharing service where others can order or download them;
- copy, remodel or recreate our templates or designs to make your own competing files or templates, including from the previews or pictures;
- claim the designs as your own, or register them as a design, trademark or other right;
- use the files in a way that breaks our Terms of Service.
You are responsible for the text you put on a design. This licence does not give you any rights in names, logos or trademarks that belong to someone else.
When a membership ends
If your STLmint Seller plan ends, because you cancel or a payment fails:
- Prints you made while you were a member stay yours to sell. You may sell items you printed before the membership ended, including stock you have on hand, without time limit.
- To print new items for sale, you need an active membership. You may keep files you downloaded as a member and print them for personal use under the single file terms above.
- Downloading files again, bulk orders and creating new files need an active membership. Files you bought separately as single files stay available in your account.
If you join again later, the full membership rights apply again from that date.
If we end your licence
If you break this licence or our Terms of Service, we may end it. You must then stop using the files concerned. Prints you made and sold lawfully before that are not affected.
